How VAT is worked out
VAT = price x rate / 100. Total = price + VAT. To remove VAT from a price that includes it, divide by (1 + rate / 100).
Example: at 21%, €100 plus VAT is €121, and a €100 price that includes VAT was €82.64 before VAT. Standard VAT rates differ by country and run roughly from 17% to 27% across the EU, with lower rates on some goods. Check your national tax authority for the current rate.
